Thoughts in a Skitoliv World

Well it is election day here in the good ‘ole US of A. Let me say it right out, everyone needs to go vote. I hear from some that the mid-term elections do not matter as much as when we are deciding the Presidency. Horse manure!(BTW this is my new favorite expression, I seem to be using it an awful lot.)

We the people of the United States of America get to decide who will get to be our leaders. The people we send to congress, elect as governor, or even choose to be our state auditor create that wonderful thing we know as government. Remember, we are currently involved in a war to instill this notion amongst people that seemingly do not want it. Though maybe they do want democracy, just not us telling them how to go about doing it.

Recently, I have been on a tremendous anti-government rant about the flaws of our electoral system. Primarily I am concerned with the 2-party system. Each of the parties has become caricatures of their original purposes. Nowadays, if you say you are a republican, you are automatically assumed to be fanatical Christian, pro-life and a war-hawk. If you claim to be a democrat, you are a leftist hippie. The general populace is neither. I hear more and more people claiming to be independents due to their dis-satisfaction with the parties as they stand now. I am hoping this leads to the formation of a viable, recognized third party. I believe that there needs to be more choice of candidate for office than just the two "official" candidates.

Yet, I have decided not to go on such a rant about how the choices for office are terrible. Nor do I want to address how none of the candidates actually say they stand for anything, they stand for the opposite of what their opponent stands for, who in turn stands for the opposite of what they stand for.

Go out and vote. Maybe it doesn’t matter. Maybe you are choosing the lesser of two evils. Yet without voting, you can not effect any change in the process.
